The bail application for the former Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Bosiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has been adjourned to October 15, 2026.
The adjournment follows the failure of Wontumi and his lawyers to appear before the court. The bail application was filed by his lead counsel, Samuel Atta Akyea, on August 6, 2026, pending Wontumi’s appeal to clear him of the illegal mining charges against him.
The court clerk informed the parties that the trial judge was not sitting this week due to her unavailability, prompting the adjournment.
The Deputy Attorney-General, Justice Srem-Sai, who is the lead prosecutor, was present at the court today, while the NPP’s Director of Legal Affairs, Gary Nimako, represented the party.
The court is expected to consider the bail application when it resumes on October 15, 2026.
