GoldBod Not Responsible For GH¢22bn Losses – Sammy Gyamfi

GoldBod CEO Sammy Gyamfi has stated that recent allegations by the Minority claiming GoldBod incurred losses of GH¢22 billion are untrue, saying the losses instead resulted from the Bank of Ghana’s operations under the Domestic Gold Purchase Programme.

The GoldBod CEO made the assertion at the Government Accountability Series, where he refuted the Minority’s claims.

Sammy Gyamfi said the International Monetary Fund (IMF) never stated anywhere in its report that GoldBod was responsible for the losses.

“What the IMF report states is that the Bank of Ghana incurred losses through the sale of gold under its Domestic Gold Purchase Programme US$400 million in 2024 and US$1.7 billion in 2025,” he said.

He also explained that the US$1.7 billion loss the equivalent of GH¢22 billion incurred in 2025 came about when the Bank of Ghana decided to scale up the Domestic Gold Purchase Programme.

The Minority, through a press conference led by Hon. Afenyo-Markin, called out Sammy Gyamfi, saying they would table a motion for him to appear before Parliament to answer questions.

But the GoldBod CEO challenged the Minority Leader to point to anything in the report stating that GoldBod was responsible for the losses.

“I challenge Afenyo-Markin to point to a page, paragraph, sentence, phrase, or punctuation mark in the said IMF reference report where GoldBod was accused by the IMF of being the entity responsible for the losses incurred by the Bank of Ghana,” he added.
