Ashanti Constituency Chairmen to Hold Night Vigil for Chairman Wontumi Ahead of Regional Elections

The Ashanti Regional Constituency Chairmen’s Caucus has announced plans to hold a night vigil in honour of former Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, on August 14, 2026, at 7pm till dawn.

The vigil, scheduled to take place at the DMB Regional Office in Asokwa on the eve of the Ashanti Regional elections, is intended to demonstrate solidarity with Chairman Wontumi and celebrate what organizers describe as his “unprecedented and illustrious leadership” during his tenure as regional chairman.

In a statement signed by the Chairman of the Ashanti Regional Constituency Chairmen’s Caucus, Kofi Acheampong, the group said the event is also a response to what it believes is an injustice suffered by Chairman Wontumi.

According to the statement, the vigil is designed not only to honour the former regional chairman but also to send “a clear signal, locally and internationally, that we will not stay silent.”

The caucus has appealed to constituency executives, party supporters, and well-wishers across the region to participate in the event.

Organizers emphasized that the gathering will be conducted peacefully and in a disciplined manner.

The night vigil comes as the Ashanti Region prepares for its regional elections, an exercise expected to shape the leadership of one of the NPP’s strongest political bases.
