The Minority in Parliament have criticised the Government for bringing to the House a Mid-Year Review Budget with empty rhetorics and blame games.
While addressing the press in Parliament after the Finance Minister, Hon. Cassiel Ato Forson read the Mid- Year Budget Review, the Caucus which was led by the former Finance Minister Hon. Amin Adam said the Government’s budget does not address the needs of Ghanaians.
According to them, the Government is still blaming the past NPP Government for their own inefficiencies “They’ve been doing this blame game from the time they assumed office in 2025 and after 18 months in Government, they are still doing blame game,” the minority said.
They added, “the Ghanaian people voted for them to deliver, just that and not to blame the previous Government. But as you all heard from the Minister’s address, there is nothing to tell the people of Ghana.”
The Finance Minister in October 2025, while reading the 2026 budget said Ghana’s debt had reduced significantly. A milestone he touted as one of the Government’s great achievements.
But according to them, the gains have been reversed. “Ghana’s debt stock at the end of 2024 was GH¢720.7 billion. In October 2025, when the Minister presented the 2026 budget, he boasted that they have reduced the debt stock from GH¢720.7 billion to GH¢630.2billion.” But then, “as of May this year, Ghana’s debt stock stood at GH¢720.8 billion,” they outlined.
So the GH¢720.7 billion that the Minister condemned we handed over to them, which they reduced to GH¢630.2 billion is today back to GH¢720.8 billion,” they added.
They also talked about the IMF programme which their Government negotiated. According to them, the NDC at the time “lambasted us, they criticized us, they condemned us”.
But they say they were able to seal the deal with funding, except that this Government is marking a return but with no funds to show for it.
“But we got an IMF programme with financing, US$3 billion, today when they are touting their achievements, we’ve achieved stability, they have gone to negotiate an IMF programme for three years without financing,” he said.
They addressed the Big Push Infrastructure Programme which according to them is not “pushing” and said “the Minister brought himself up when he said that they had paid GH¢6.5 billion to Big Push contractors.”
According to them, how can one sign a contract at GH¢70billion and only pay GH¢6.5 billion.
They are telling Government to be truthful to Ghanaians. According to them, Government has failed but is hiding behind “flowery language” and “PR Settings.”
