Naa Koryoo’s Conduct Brings Shame to Parliament — Paul Yandoh

The Ashanti Regional Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Yandoh, has called on the Speaker of Parliament to suspend the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor, over a controversy surrounding allegations made by the Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Speaking in an interview on the Wontumi Morning Show with host Oheneba Nana Asiedu, Mr. Yandoh expressed concern over the matter, describing it as damaging to the image of Parliament and the office of a Member of Parliament.

According to him, the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, should take immediate action while the issue is being addressed.

“Hon. Naa Koryoo should not still be sitting in Parliament. The Speaker of Parliament should suspend her,” Mr. Yandoh stated.

He further alleged that the Awutu Senya East legislator has been involved in a series of controversies since assuming office.

“Hon. Naa Koryoo is not disciplined. She does not deserve to be a Member of Parliament. It is a shame,” he said.

Mr. Yandoh also referenced a previous incident in which, according to him, the MP accused the former Awutu Senya East MP, Mavis Hawa Koomson, of shooting one of her bodyguards but later admitted the allegation was untrue.

“The same way she accused the former MP for Awutu Senya East, Hon. Mavis Hawa Koomson, of shooting one of her bodyguards, but later admitted the allegation was untrue. Is this not shameful?” he questioned.

Touching on the current controversy, Mr. Yandoh alleged that the NDC Central Regional Chairman, Prof. Richard Asiedu, was the individual who publicly claimed to have had an intimate relationship with Hon. Naa Koryoo.

He argued that the allegations have brought the office of a legislator into public disrepute and stressed the need for public office holders to uphold the dignity associated with their positions.

“The title ‘Honourable’ carries great responsibility and should be upheld with dignity. The current controversy has, in my view, brought the office of a Member of Parliament into disrepute,” he said.

Neither Hon. Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor nor the NDC Central Regional Chairman had publicly responded to Mr. Yandoh’s comments at the time of publication.
