The Upper East Regional Police Command has arrested four suspects, including a juvenile, in connection with the murder of a couple at Kusanaba in the Zebilla District.

The suspects, identified as Safianu Salam, Awal Salam and Jawal Salam, together with a juvenile whose name has been withheld, were arrested on June 19, 2026, at a hideout in Kugre near Garu.

According to preliminary police investigations, the incident occurred on June 10 when the victims, 45-year-old Apam Azubilla and his 35-year-old wife, Apam Anomsigna, were in their room when four armed men allegedly forced their way into the house and attacked them.

Police say the assailants shot the couple before fleeing the scene.

During the attack, Apam Azubilla reportedly cried out for help, prompting his brother, Ayubugre Apam, to rush to the room. Upon arrival, he found the couple lying in pools of blood and raised an alarm.

The victims were rushed to the Zegoyire Health Centre, where Apam Anomsigna was pronounced dead on arrival. Apam Azubilla was later referred to the Zebilla District Hospital but was also pronounced dead on arrival.

An examination conducted on the bodies confirmed gunshot wounds.

Police further disclosed that family members handed over three spent AK-47 shells recovered from the scene to assist investigations.

The four suspects are currently in police custody and are expected to be arraigned in court as investigations continue.
