The Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo Markin, has criticised Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson over the rising cost of electricity in the country.
His comments come after the Finance Minister addressed Parliament on the Ghana Accelerated National Reserve Policy, where he outlined key microeconomic indicators aimed at stabilising the economy.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament, Mr. Afenyo Markin expressed concern over the increasing electricity tariffs, stating that many Ghanaians are struggling to afford power and are calling on government to urgently intervene.
According to him, the Ghanaian youth are not interested in the microeconomic indicators highlighted by the Finance Minister, but are rather concerned about the harsh economic realities they face daily.
He further alleged that the current administration increased electricity tariffs by 30 percent upon assuming office, adding that electricity costs have since risen by nearly 100 percent.
Mr. Afenyo-Markin maintained that the figures presented by the Finance Minister do not reflect the real living conditions of ordinary Ghanaians, insisting that the power sector requires urgent reforms to bring relief to consumers.
