Media outlet The New York Times has ranked the Black Stars’ white jersey as the best among the 48 teams participating in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The report noted that the design of the jersey is top-notch, particularly the “gigantic multi-coloured spider’s web” pattern, which gives it an elegant look and makes it highly appealing.
The indigenous kente-inspired design and hand-woven textile elements make the jersey unique and help it stand out among those of other teams.
For these reasons, the quality and creativity of Ghana’s jersey surpassed those of other countries, earning it the top spot in the rankings for the tournament.
“Wow. In general, I’m not wild about Puma’s designs this year because they don’t seem massively interesting, but that’s absolutely not an accusation you can level against this one. It looks like a gigantic, multi-coloured spider’s web, because that’s exactly what it is,” part of the New York Times article read.
“The design is inspired by kente, a traditional Ghanaian hand-woven textile, which apparently originated from weavers trying to replicate the patterns of a spider called Anansi from their ancient folklore. Even if you don’t buy any of that… well, just look at it,” the artcle noted.
This recognition comes as a compliment to the jersey, despite initial criticisms from some Ghanaians when it was first released.
The tournament, taking place in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, will begin on June 11, 2026. Ghana will compete against England, Croatia, and Panama in Group L for a place in the knockout stage.
