Fifteen people have been confirmed dead and 25 others injured following a devastating head-on collision involving a Mercedes-Benz container truck and a Mercedes-Benz passenger bus at Peki-Tsame, near Peki Senior High School.
The tragic accident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, June 2, 2026.
According to preliminary reports, the container truck, registered WR 1553-C, was travelling from Nkwanta towards Accra when it collided head-on with a passenger bus, registered GR 3215-E, which was moving from Battor to Kabiti in the Oti Region. The impact of the crash was severe, leaving both vehicles extensively damaged and trapping several passengers inside.
A total of 40 people were involved in the crash, consisting of 21 males, 15 females, and four children. Rescue teams from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded swiftly to the scene and carried out a coordinated operation to extricate victims from the wreckage. In all, 25 injured persons—comprising 23 adults and two children—were rescued and transported for medical attention.
Sadly, 15 individuals, made up of nine males and six females, were pronounced dead at the scene. Their bodies were later handed over to the police and conveyed to the hospital mortuary for preservation and further investigation.
The injured victims were rushed to the Peki Government Hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment. Authorities have indicated that the exact cause of the accident is still under investigation as police and transport officials work to determine what led to the fatal collision.
The Ghana National Fire Service has urged all motorists to strictly adhere to road safety regulations, avoid reckless driving, and exercise maximum caution on highways. Officials emphasized that compliance with traffic laws is essential to reducing road accidents and saving lives across the country.
