Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Chairman Wontumi, has said that even Google recognizes him as the only party chairman, describing the title as a divinely inspired name that reflects his political journey and leadership.
Speaking in an interview with Kwaku Dawuro on Movement TV, Wontumi said he believes God transformed his identity in a similar way biblical figures received new names to reflect their destinies.
“Google recognizes me as the only party chairman. Chairman Wontumi is my inspirational name,” he stated.
Drawing parallels with biblical accounts, he said God changed his name from Bengazy to Chairman Wontumi just as Simon was renamed Peter and Jacob became Israel.
According to him, the name has become synonymous with his political brand and influence, particularly within the NPP.
Wontumi stressed that his rise to prominence was not accidental but the result of years of hard work and perseverance. Recounting his early life during the interview, he revealed that he grew up in London, where he worked several jobs before returning to Ghana.
“I worked as a cleaner for several years before becoming a bouncer and later a personal bodyguard,” he said.
He explained that he often worked up to 18 hours a day in pursuit of a better life, adding that his experiences abroad shaped his strong work ethic.
The NPP chairman noted that he has never been ashamed of honest labour and attributes much of his success to determination, discipline, and faith in God.
