Lead counsel for Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, Lawyer Andy Appiah-Kubi, has disclosed that the defence team is set to call the former Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, as its fourth witness in the ongoing court case.
Speaking to journalists earlier at the court premises where Chairman Wontumi appeared, Lawyer Appiah-Kubi said the witness is expected to testify in support of his client.
“We are calling our next witness, who will be the fourth defence witness in the case. He is scheduled to testify today, and we are hopeful that by tomorrow we will present our final defence witness. Today’s witness is the former Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, who is coming to give evidence in support of Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi,” he stated.
He further argued that issues surrounding illegal mining activities on the Samreboi concession should be properly interrogated, questioning the identities of those involved.
“Previously, illegal miners were operating on the Samreboi concession, and the question Ghanaians must ask is: who are these illegal miners?” he added.
Chairman Wontumi was present in court as proceedings continued, while the defence indicated that it is nearing the conclusion of its witness presentation.
