Ashanti NPP at a Crossroads: Adansi Bloc Demands Bold Leadership Change. Backs Edward Ennin For Regional Chairman

A growing wave of concern is sweeping through the Ashanti Region as a group has sounded the alarm over the party’s declining electoral fortunes, calling for urgent leadership renewal while endorsing former Obuasi East MP Hon. Edward Ennin as the man to restore the region’s political dominance.

At a press conference addressed in Obuasi by Gordon Oppong spokesperson for the group-Rescue Ashanti NPP Adansi movement- it noted that recent electoral performances reveal a disturbing decline in the party’s traditional strongholds, especially within the strategic Adansi enclave.

According to the movement, the NPP can no longer ignore the warning signs after losing three out of six constituencies in the Adansi zone — Adansi Akrofuom, Adansi Asokwa, and New Edubiase — to the opposition. Even more alarming, Obuasi East, once considered a safe NPP seat, was only retained by a razor-thin margin of 19 votes in the 2024 general elections.

Describing the situation as a political emergency requiring immediate and courageous intervention, the movement insists that the Ashanti Region must reclaim its position as the fortress of the NPP and restore the pride that once made the region the backbone of the party’s electoral success.

To achieve this, the group has thrown its full support behind Hon. Edward Ennin, former Member of Parliament for Obuasi East, urging him to contest for the position of Ashanti Regional Chairman.

They praised Ennin as a battle-tested leader with the experience, courage, and independence needed to revive the party’s grassroots machinery and reunite fractured forces within the region.

They highlighted Ennin’s political track record, pointing to his tenure as MP for the former Obuasi Constituency from 2004 to 2012, and later as MP for Obuasi East, where he helped secure massive votes for the NPP.

Beyond electoral strength, the movement emphasized his close ties with traditional authorities across the Asante Kingdom, describing him as a respected bridge between political leadership and cultural influence, further claiming that Ennin’s leadership could inspire the return of many influential old party figures and “native Kumasianos” who have become politically inactive since the era of former President John Agyekum Kufuor.

“Hon. Ennin is the bridge between the new and old order of our dear party,” the statement declared.

The endorsement is expected to intensify internal conversations ahead of the upcoming regional executive elections, with many party faithful now questioning whether fresh leadership is needed to reverse the NPP’s declining fortunes in its strongest region.

The movement called on delegates, executives, and party supporters across Ashanti to rally behind a candidate who symbolizes renewal, strength, discipline, and victory.
