‘Kakarika government’ – Annoh-Dompreh blasts Mahama administration over cocoa farmers Hardship

Minority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has launched a stinging attack on President Mahama’s administration, branding it a “kakarika government” one he says is defined by deception and a trail of broken promises, most acutely felt by cocoa farmers across the country.

Speaking with evident frustration, the lawmaker questioned the government’s sense of priority, pointing to reports that billions of cedis have been deployed to shore up the local currency, even as the very farmers who sustain Ghana’s critical cocoa sector continue to reel from slashed prices and unresolved payment backlogs.

“It is unacceptable that while huge resources are mobilised for macroeconomic interventions, farmers who sustain a key sector of the economy are left in hardship, unable to meet basic needs.”

“It is unacceptable,” Annoh-Dompreh insisted, “that while huge resources are mobilised for macroeconomic interventions, farmers who sustain a key sector of the economy are left in hardship, unable to meet basic needs.”

The Nsawam-Adoagyiri MP made clear that the Minority caucus in Parliament will not relent in demanding answers from government. He called on the administration to urgently review its resource allocation, restore competitive and fair cocoa producer prices, and clear all outstanding payments owed to farmers without further delay.

Cocoa remains one of Ghana’s most vital export commodities and a primary source of income for hundreds of thousands of rural households. The sector, managed largely through the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), has faced mounting criticism in recent months over price adjustments and payment delays that farmers say have pushed many into financial difficulty.
