Why I Dropped Out Of University At 100 Level – CKay

Nigerian singer, Chukwuka Ekweani, popularly known as CKay, has revealed that he sacrificed a lot for his music career, including disobeying his parents and dropping out of university.

Speaking during a recent livestream on Twitch with streamer Caterefe, the Love Nwantiti hitmaker disclosed that his parents did not approve of him doing music, so he absconded from home at the age of 19.

He said he also dropped out of university at 100 level to focus on music.

“My parents didn’t want me to do music, so I ran away from home in Kaduna when I was 19.

“I came down to Lagos to chase my passion in music. When I arrived in Lagos, I wrote a long letter and sent it to my mum via Blackberry.

“Initially, I was staying with one of my friends. But after some time, I got a one-room apartment. I was making money as a producer, working with four different studios.

“At some point, I had to drop out of university at just 100 level to focus on music,” he explained.

CKay gained prominence in 2018 with the release of his breakthrough song, ‘Container.’

His 2019 single, ‘Love Nwantiti’ became a global hit and broke many African records, with the original version hitting a billion streams on Spotify.
