Wolverhampton Wanderers came from two goals down to stun Arsenal, holding the Premier League leaders to a shock 2-2 draw at Molineux.
Wolves youngster Tom Edozie came off the bench to score a dramatic 94th-minute equaliser, marking a dream debut and earning the hosts a deserved point following a determined second-half display.
Hugo Bueno scored a beautiful goal to halve the deficit on 61 minutes, curling into the top left-hand corner from the edge of the area. But not even head coach Rob Edwards could have expected what was to come, as Wolves scored again at the death to claim only their tenth point of the season.
It had all started so well for Arsenal, as Bukayo Saka, playing in an auxiliary No. 10 role, took just five minutes to break the deadlock. Saka had been on a 15-game goal drought – the longest of his career so far – but he ended his wait with a deft header from a Declan Rice cross.
Arsenal doubled their lead through Piero Hincapie, who toe-poked into the roof of the net after latching onto a Gabriel through pass soon after half-time. The assistant’s flag was raised to begin with before VAR ruled that Hincapie was onside.
Hincapie, getting off the mark in the English top flight, became the 15th Arsenal player to score a Premier League goal this season. But even a two-goal lead away at the table-footers wasn’t enough, as Wolves fought back valiantly to claim a shock point.
It’s the first time in Premier League history a team top of the table has let a two-goal lead slip against a team in the relegation zone. Manchester City, five points behind with a game in hand, have a golden opportunity to respond against Newcastle United this Saturday night.
