2026 World Cup: Teams To Submit 26 Players As Final Squad Or Tournament

World football’s governing body, FIFA, has confirmed that all participating nations at the 2026 World Cup will submit final squads of 26 players.

The tournament, which will be hosted in the United States, Canada and Mexico, is scheduled for this summer, with May 31 set as the deadline for squad submissions.

The expanded squad size—introduced in recent major tournaments—offers coaches greater flexibility to manage injuries, rotate players, and adjust tactics throughout the competition.

Ghana’s preparations are already underway, with head coach Otto Addo and his technical team currently in Vienna fine-tuning the squad ahead of high-profile international friendlies against Austria and Germany. These matches are expected to play a crucial role in assessing player readiness.

The Black Stars will continue their build-up with another test against Mexico in May, after which the final squad is expected to be announced. A final preparatory game against Wales on June 2 will serve as the team’s last tune-up before the tournament kicks off.

Ghana, making their fifth appearance at the Mundial, have been drawn in a challenging group alongside Panama, England and Croatia.
