Afenyo-Markin Rallies TESCON Students to Defend Party Tradition

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has delivered a strong call to action to members of the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON), urging them to remain steadfast in defending the values and future of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Addressing students at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), he described their decision to join TESCON as a deliberate commitment to leadership, discipline, and national service.

“You have made the right decision,” he told the gathering, stressing that TESCON membership is not merely symbolic but a demanding path that tests resilience, loyalty, and patriotism.

Afenyo-Markin challenged the students to think beyond their current status and begin preparing for the responsibility of sustaining the party’s legacy.

“At moments like this, we must not only reflect on where we are, but also pay attention to where we are going—and those who will carry the tradition forward,” he said.

He emphasized that TESCON members represent the next generation of political leadership and must position themselves as custodians of the party’s ideals, especially at a time when the NPP is in opposition.

According to him, the party’s future strength will depend heavily on how well young members are groomed to take up leadership roles.

The Minority Leader highlighted the historical importance of TESCON, tracing its formation to 2000 at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology under the leadership of former President John Agyekum Kufuor.

He noted that since its inception, TESCON has evolved into a critical training ground for political mobilisation and leadership development within the NPP.

He pointed out that many of the party’s current leaders, including Members of Parliament and government officials, emerged from the student wing, demonstrating its long-term impact.

“TESCON is not just about student politics it is about shaping national leaders,” he stated.
