A member of the NPP communications team, Mr. George Ackom, has defended former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, arguing that the level of criticism and insults directed at him by some Ghanaians and members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is unfair despite his achievements while in office.
Speaking on Wontumi Morning Show hosted by Oheneba Nana Asiedu, Mr. Ackom stated that several policies and projects implemented under the Akufo-Addo administration are currently benefiting the NDC, even though the party initially opposed them.
“Akufo-Addo implemented policies that the NDC is benefiting from today, even though they criticized them when the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was in power,” he said.
He further accused the NDC of losing credibility due to what he described as contradictions between their past criticisms and current actions.
“There is a saying that you lose credibility when your actions contradict your words. Everything the NDC criticized, they are now doing even more,” he added.
Mr. Ackom also questioned widely held notions of democracy, referencing Abraham Lincoln.
“When they say government of the people, by the people, and for the people, Africa was not part of that plan,” he claimed.
On government spending, he criticized the NDC over the use of luxury vehicles, noting what he described as hypocrisy.
“The same NDC that condemned the NPP for using expensive vehicles like Land Cruisers is now doing the same, while many young people remain unemployed,” he said.
He also raised concerns about delays in teacher postings and unpaid allowances, pointing out that some graduates who have completed national service are yet to secure employment.
“It is disappointing, especially considering the promises they made to Ghanaians,” he noted.
Additionally, Mr. Ackom accused the government of nepotism, alleging that appointments are being given to family members instead of qualified individuals. He dismissed similar allegations previously made against former Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, insisting those claims were unfounded.
In conclusion, he advised young people to make informed voting decisions.
“Any time I meet the youth, I tell them to vote for a party that can truly help them,” he stated.
