64-Year-Old Canada-Based Ghanaian Doctor Charged With Sexually Assaulting Female Patient

A 64-year-old Ghanaian medical doctor based in Canada is facing charges for sexually assaulting a female patient, years after he had been discharged for a similar offense.

Dr. Clarence Clottey, who works at “Bristol Family Physicians” on Bristol Circle in Oakville, a lower-tier municipality in Halton Region, Ontario, Canada, was arrested by the Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) after an adult woman reported being sexually assaulted during a visit to the clinic.

Clottey has been charged with one count of sexual assault and was released from custody pending a court appearance in Milton.

Authorities have released his photo, suspecting that there may be additional victims.

In January 2020, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) placed restrictions on Clottey following allegations of misconduct and separate sexual assault charges when he was 59 years old.

Clottey was initially arrested in 2016 and faced six counts of sexual assault, with six patients testifying against him.

Inappropriate touching during examinations was among the allegations.

In 2018, Clottey was acquitted on all counts, but in 2019, he was arrested again for allegedly sexually assaulting a female patient in 2014.

The CPSO imposed practice restrictions on Clottey, prohibiting him from examining female patients’ breast, pelvic, or rectal areas.

He must refer these patients to another physician if needed. Additionally, the CPSO suspended Clottey for a year, starting in 2017.
