Government has granted import duty waivers for raw materials for the local manufacture of sanitary pads.
When implemented, this will reduce the prices for raw materials used for the production of sanitary products, which will be used by local manufacturers to produce more sanitary pads in Ghana.
This will discourage the importation of sanitary pads and make the locally produced ones afforable for Ghanaians women to buy.
This comes after several protests and public outcry from individuals, Civil Society Organizations and NGOs, calling for a total scrap of taxes on sanitary pads.
This was announced by the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta, earlier today during the 2024 Budget presentation in Parliament.
