The police administration has interdicted a police officer for negligently leaving his rifle in a commercial vehicle after allegedly collecting a GH¢100 bribe from the driver. Rivers State High Court has convicted a man identified as Bestman Lekia to death by hanging for killing four people and using one of his victims’ intestines to prepare porridge in Okwalie community, Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State. The court also found Lekia guilty of armed robbery, kidnapping, cultism and burglary. The Ghana cedi depreciated by a substantial 19.1% to the US dollar in the first month of 2023. According to the Bank of Ghana’s January 2023 Summary of Economic and Financial Data, the cedi sold at ¢10.60 to one US dollar in January 2023 on the interbank market, compared with ¢8.57 in December 31, 2022. The Central Bank, however, pegged the cedi depreciation to the American greenback in 2022 to 30%.
