2021/22 Ghana Premier League Week 16: Match Report – Hearts of Oak 0-1 Great Olympics

Great Olympics maintained their recent dominance over city rivals Hearts of Oak with a 1-0 win in the first Mantse derby of the season at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.

Olympics, who took four points from Hearts last season, secured three points thanks to Yussif Razak’s first-half strike. As result, they have moved back to fifth on the table.

Olympics are now unbeaten in their last three games against the reigning Ghanaian champions who have dropped to seventh and remain 10 points behind leaders Asante Kotoko.

Kotoko will go 13 points clear of Hearts should they beat bottom dwellers Elmina Sharks on Monday.

Hearts introduced new signing and legendary midfielder Sulley Muntari in the second half. However, the former AC Milan and Inter star could not rescue them as they suffered their third defeat in five games.

In a game where the Phobians needed a win to close the gap at the top of the league log, Hearts were second best to a more determined Olympics side.

Olympics showed promise right from the start. It came as little surprise when Razak found the net in the 32nd minute to finish the first half with a deserved lead.

Hearts were better in the second half and threw everything at Olympics in the closing stages but Olympics were resolute enough to claim bragging rights again.

The result also means Samuel Boadu has lost his first home Ghana Premier League game as Hearts coach and  Great Olympics have ended the Phobian’s 31-game unbeaten run at the Accra Sports stadium in all competitions.
