18 Suspects Arrested Over Recent Bawku Disturbances
The Upper East Regional Police Command has arrested 18 suspects in Bawku following the killing of a horse trader at Gozezi.
The Fulani horse trader and a resident of Sabon Zongo had gone to Widana to bring one of his horses to Bawku, but was trailed by some unknown assailants on a motorbike and shot dead.
Upper East Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP David Fianko-Okyere, told Citi News that the suspects will be screened and arraigned today, Tuesday, March 15, 2022.
“We have arrested 18 people, and they are all under investigation and by close of today, Tuesday, they will be sent to court for further investigations.”
“We are currently interrogating and screening these 18 people and making processes for further investigations”.
ASP Fianko-Okyere, added that the suspects who were arrested during a swoop will be charged based on evidence gathered.
“A swoop was conducted, and we are screening them. Possibly the evidence that we will get from them will determine the charges. So, let’s wait till we finish preparing the charges”.
He added that calm had returned to Bawku and people were going about their normal daily businesses.
He reiterated the commitment of the police and military personnel in Bawku to ensure law and order in the area.
ASP Fianko-Okyere, also appealed to the media to be circumspect in their reportage on the Bawku disturbances, admonishing media practitioners to source information from the police.
